OUR DREAM ENDING NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES

The Walk On Project Foundation (WOP) is much more than a social enterprise, it is a dream: To end neurodegenerative diseases.

Among other lines of activity, we work in the world of music, sports, events and congresses, and retail. In all of them we try to add value and, in addition, generate profit to take steps towards our dream.

Effort, self-improvement, teamwork, commitment, optimism as an engine of change and professionalism are values to which we try to be faithful.

Many people, brands and institutions share our excitement on this journey.

“Because if many of us dream it, it may come true.”

OUR HISTORY

It all began on October 13, 2008…

"It's a long story that's impossible to summarize, but here are a few highlights. We had a comfortable and privileged life. And three seemingly healthy children. Suddenly, everything changed. The middle child, Jon, aged 6, started tripping over in the woods. We thought it was myopia. After a long journey through doctors, the diagnosis was devastating: Jon has a serious neurodegenerative disease. He has approximately one year left to live. It is the disease depicted in the film ‘Lorenzo’s Oil’." MY NAME IS MIKEL RENTERIA. MENTXU AND I HAD A PRIVILEGED LIFE. "Life was turned upside down. The first thing was that the announcement would not be fulfilled. That's how it turned out. We were able to perform a bone marrow transplant from his younger sister, which slowed the disease. Until it stopped, it caused Jon a lot of harm, leaving him with serious injuries, but Jon is alive, living a happy life, and is a vital example for all of us who are lucky enough to share the journey with him." JON LIVES I wrote a song for my son as a promise that he would never give up: Walk On" "We began to discover the reality of these diseases and to meet many 'Jons'. We knew what we had to do to be happy and decided to dedicate our lives to fighting these diseases. Because if you know what you have to do and you don't do it, then you're worse off than before. A NEW PATH "And with the name of that song, The Walk On Project was born, thanks to the support and encouragement of the people who embraced us and encouraged us to take that vital leap. We created WOP with the aim of promoting our dream: Ending neurodegenerative diseases as soon as possible. The challenge was to create a foundation in the form of a social enterprise, based on our values, that would add value and generate profits to be dedicated to our dream." WE CREATED WOP "Many people have joined us on this journey and have been building WOP since then. Jon lives on, is the captain of our foundation, and is a daily reminder of our mission. We will succeed as a society; we will end these diseases." Mikel Renteria

Funding research projects seeking therapies for neurodegenerative diseases
Spreading awareness about neurodegenerative diseases
Promoting social awareness in favor of research and science

>1.300.000€

intended for our purposes

440.000€

for research projects

>150

talks and lectures in different forums

WOP Konekta

international neuroscience conference

10.000.000€

annual impact of dissemination according to media assessment

We have financed seven international projects in regenerative therapies for neurodegenerative diseases with our own resources through an international public tender and evaluation by the Ministry of Science. Some projects are already about to enter the clinical trial phase. The aim of these projects is to slow down the progression of these conditions and reverse the damage.
